Located in Providence's West End, Alfred Lima, Sr. Elementary School serves approximately 450 students from kindergarten to grade 5. Lima offers ESL in an integrated setting, dual language programs for all grades, special education services are provided in a general education setting, and an afterschool partnership with the YMCA for academic and enrichment. Like many of our schools, Lima Elementary prioritizing social emotional learning for its students.

The Providence School District has officially opened kindergarten registration for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. District officials are encouraging families to complete their registrations before the on-time deadline of May 9, 2026, to ensure their child is included in the initial school placement process.

Superintendent Dr. Javier Montañez Receives National Family Engagement Award

Providence, RI, February 12, 2026 – The Providence Public School District (PPSD)  is proud to announce that Superintendent Dr. Javier Montañez was recognized by AASA, The School Superintendents Association, with the AASA-PTA Family Engagement Changemaker Award. The national award was presented today during the National Conference on Education in Nashville.

Selected by an external review panel of peers and family-engagement experts from more than 50 nominations, Dr. Montañez is being honored for implementing exemplary best practices that integrate family engagement across strategic plans, budgets, and district infrastructure.

Bradford Scholarship

The Providence Public School District (PPSD) and the City of Providence in collaboration with the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE), today announced that the 2026 Edward Hickling Bradford Scholarship application is now live and available for eligible PPSD seniors. With the help of the scholarship, which is made possible with the Bradford Trust, Providence students who demonstrate significant financial need will have support to attend college.  The award this year is $1100.

Pleasant View Green Ribbon Award

PROVIDENCE, RI – Two Providence Public Schools have been named recipients of the 2025 Rhode Island Green Ribbon Award. The Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) recognized Pleasant View Elementary School and the Narducci Learning Center as two of just seven schools in the state to be honored for their commitment to sustainability, health and energy efficiency.

Asa Messer/West Broadway Groundbreaking

Providence, RI — The Providence Public School District (PPSD) broke ground on the new Assa Messer/West Broadway PK-8 School Monday afternoon. The $62.5 million project will unite the two schools into one modern, purpose-built facility. 

The new four-story building will replace the aging elementary school. It will feature dedicated Pre-K spaces, separate learning and bathroom spaces for younger and older students, and upgraded technology and safety systems.
